October has always been our<\/em> month. It\u2019s when we celebrate our wedding anniversary\u2014on the 20th\u2014and it\u2019s the time of year that holds some of my favorite travel memories.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t you just love October? In the Northern Hemisphere, the leaves begin to change, pumpkin-spiced everything returns, and the cozy spirit of the season arrives. For me, it\u2019s a time of reflection, celebration, and often\u2026 adventure.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always believed in celebrating\u2014new jobs, new homes, new babies, sunsets, anniversaries, birthdays\u2014and yes, especially travel.<\/p>\n

When a journey is truly special, I can\u2019t just file it away as a memory. I want to relive it\u2014again and again. I\u2019ll scroll through photos, share moments on Instagram, and create reels that capture the feeling of being there. These are not just trips\u2014they\u2019re milestones in our story as empty nesters<\/em> rediscovering the world together.<\/p>\n

Adventures Worth Celebrating<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Since becoming empty nesters (and creating Adventures of Empty Nesters<\/em>), travel has become a beautiful thread in our lives. A 40th Anniversary in Patagonia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Last year, for our 40th wedding anniversary, we partnered with our friends at Collette<\/strong> for a truly unforgettable tour\u2014Patagonia: Edge of the World<\/strong><\/a>. The landscapes were otherworldly, and the adventure was everything we hoped for and more. We extended our trip\u00a0by a few extra days in\u00a0Buenos Aires<\/strong>, soaking in the city’s rhythm,<\/span> tango music, and those famous Argentinian steaks.<\/p>\n

An African Adventure to Remember<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Two years ago, we marked our anniversary with an extraordinary Africa tour<\/strong>\u2014a once-in-a-lifetime experience that continues to inspire me. The wildlife, the people, the vast open skies\u2014it was pure magic. California Dreamin’: Our 2025 Anniversary Getaway<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This year, we stayed closer to home and indulged in a luxury travel experience in California<\/strong>\u2014a romantic weekend in North San Diego County<\/strong>. We returned to one of our favorite boutique hotels, the Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Alila Marea is modern, sophisticated, and perfectly positioned on the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The staff is exceptional, the cuisine is outstanding, and the entire resort embodies California coastal luxury<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Of course, no trip to the area is complete without dinner at Jeune et Jolie<\/strong> in nearby Carlsbad\u2014a restaurant that redefines French-inspired fine dining in Southern California<\/strong>. Their four-course tasting menu allows guests to choose their own adventure, blending inventive flavors with impeccable presentation. Though Jeune et Jolie proudly holds a Michelin star<\/strong>, it remains refreshingly warm and unpretentious\u2014an experience that feels both refined and welcoming.<\/p>\n
