Me too!<\/h2>\n<p>Orange County is a very popular summertime destination, however, springtime is also the perfect season\u00a0for a weekend visit to Newport Beach and Balboa Island\u00a0because\u00a0the crowds of summer have not yet arrived and\u00a0the temp is most likely hovering around 74 degrees or higher.\u00a0With so many lovely beaches, great shopping and fabulous restaurants, it is difficult to choose where to go next. There are many amazing hotels and resorts\u00a0to choose from,\u00a0but one of our favorite places to relax and unwind, is the <a href=\"http:\/\/newportbeach.hyatt.com\/en\/hotel\/home.html\">Hyatt Newport Beach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0raised our family in Orange County and fortunately have had decades of experiences and adventures here.\u00a0Now that our kids are grown and we are empty nesters, my husband and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adventuresofemptynesters.com\/empty-nest-renovation-before-photos-and-video\/\"> I have recently moved to Pasadena, (about 60 miles north of the OC)\u00a0to\u00a0begin a new adventure<\/a>. We still come south to visit often and pretend we are tourists! I am happy to share my\u00a0tips with you!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With all of the options available we choose to stay at the <a href=\"http:\/\/newportbeach.hyatt.com\/en\/hotel\/home.html\">Hyatt Newport Beach<\/a> for several reasons.<\/p>\n<p>1. Easy access from the airport<\/p>\n<p>2. Lovely\u00a0rooms and suites<\/p>\n<p>3. Amazing weather<\/p>\n<p>4. Restaurant\/shopping within walking distance<\/p>\n<p>5. Friendly staff and events<\/p>\n<p>6. If you fly into LAX\u00a0it is a very good idea to rent a car.\u00a0However, I actually recommend renting a car regardless of your arrival airport, the geographic area is so spread out, that you just cannot get from place to place easily without one. Without a car, you are missing\u00a0the flexibility to drive further south to see the nearby and\u00a0incredibly beautiful\u00a0cities of Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach.<\/p>\n<h2>For a quick weekend getaway, here are some fun itinerary suggestions:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>On Friday:<\/strong>\u00a0From the Hyatt*, walk to Balboa Island, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.balboaislandferry.com\">The Balboa Island Ferry<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Balboa_Fun_Zone\">Fun Zone<\/a> &#8211; Located less than a mile from the hotel, you can walk over to the small island community of Balboa Island. Walk the entire circumference of the island if you are feeling ambitious. Eat a famous Balboa Bar (ice cream), watch the sailboats, try\u00a0some local seafood, find some unique, beachy souvenirs in one of the many adorable\u00a0gift stores. There is even a local ferry where you can go across the channel to the Fun Zone.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you choose to\u00a0stay at a different hotel property, just\u00a0adjust your map accordingly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12605\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12605\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12605 size-large lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.adventuresofemptynesters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_9706-600x800.jpg\" alt=\"weekend in Newport Beach\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/800;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12605\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A walk around the lovely island of Balboa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On Saturday<\/strong>, walk over to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shopfashionisland.com\">Fashion Island<\/a> and then walk over to experience <a href=\"http:\/\/rogersgardens.com\">Rogers Gardens<\/a>\u00a0which is very close by. There is something for everyone at Fashion Island. Walk around, window shop, grab a bite or stop for an iced tea and snack. Rogers Gardens is an amazing home and garden store and is one my favorite places on earth. Just imagine a full service nursery, clever flower baskets, along with inspiring interior design. They decorate for every holiday season and the displays are unequaled. I am certain they are bursting at the seams with pink and green Easter decor and inspiration right about now!<\/p>\n<p>If shopping and walking isn&#8217;t your thing, then you are in luck, because kayaking, windsurfing, fishing, sailing, bicycling, surfing and other water sports are available too! The weather is pretty consistent, so you need not worry about rain, but it can be\u00a0windy at times.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.duffyofnewportbeach.com\">Renting a Duffy electric boat<\/a> is a super fun outing for the family or everyone! Just imagine steering your way through Newport Beach Harbor and admiring the magnificent yachts. We have enjoyed this activity during the day as well as in the evening. At Christmastime the vast\u00a0harbor\u00a0is dressed for the holidays with colorful twinkling lights. If you are in Newport in early December the Boat Parade is a must see!<\/p>\n<h2>An additional\u00a0fun shopping experience:<\/h2>\n<p>Vici is the place to buy fun, modern casual clothing at VERY reasonable prices. My friend Sandy owns the store and all of the gals that work there are super helpful and talented\u00a0at putting great\u00a0outfits\u00a0together. It is located just across the way from Fashion Island. You won&#8217;t believe the cute and comfortable styles for the price.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vicicollection.com\">Vici Collection<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Hungry?\u00a0Casual lunch ideas at Fashion Island in Newport Beach:<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbankitchengroup.com\/cucina-enoteca-newport-beach\/\">Cucina Enoteca<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lepainquotidien.com\/store\/fashion-island\/#.VtzFroQTX8E\">Le Pain Quotidien<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonadela.com\/locations\/orange-county\/newport-beach\">Lemonade<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.truefoodkitchen.com\/#about\">True Food Kitchen (my all time favorite)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A Day in Laguna Beach<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12606\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12606\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-12606 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.adventuresofemptynesters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/visitlagunabeach-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"weekend in Newport Beach\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/400;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12606\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Laguna Beach<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On Sunday<\/strong>\u00a0drive (you must have a car to do this or take an Uber) down the breathtaking\u00a0coast of Laguna Beach with many hip restaurants offering delicious food and a coastal vibe.\u00a0It is difficult to choose my favorites! Typically the restaurants with the best views of Laguna Beach do not always have the best food. You can always go have a drink, enjoy the view and eat somewhere else. (Sorry to\u00a0be so blunt).<\/p>\n<p>Spend the day soaking up the sun in the quaint seaside\u00a0town and take a seat and relax on\u00a0the gorgeous beaches. You can easily eat your way all through Laguna Beach. How about\u00a0a walking food tour from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/savor laguna\">Savor Laguna<\/a>?<\/strong>\u00a0You can learn about some other interesting places to eat and hear stories of how Laguna has grown through the years. If you are hoping to work off those vacation calories,\u00a0you can also take long leisurely walks on the sand or find some lovely hiking trails close by.<\/p>\n<h2>Laguna Beach lunch\/brunch ideas<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/nicksrestaurants.com\/nicks-laguna-beach\/\">Nicks<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/watermarcrestaurant.com\">Watermarc<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/carmelitaskitchen.com\">Carmelitas<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zinccafe.com\">Zinc Cafe &amp; Market<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.surfandsandresort.com\"><strong>Splashes at the Surf and Sand Resort<\/strong> <\/a>\u00a0Great upscale food, but with views to die for. \u00a0My view restaurant exception! Great food <em>and<\/em> spectacular views of the shore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urth Caffe Laguna Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>This small group of Laguna Beach restaurants listed below are my suggestions\u00a0for dinner. They are more upscale and reservations are a must. I love love love each of them! They offer some of the best food in Southern California.<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/selanne steak tavern\">Selanne Steak Tavern<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sapphire laguna\">Sapphire<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadwaybyamarsantana.com\">Broadway by Amar Santana<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=javiers+newport+beach&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\">Javiers (closer to Newport Beach)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Just a few more helpful tidbits!<\/h2>\n<p>Honestly, the weather is fantastic any month that you choose to visit Orange County. \u00a0By renting a car it allows a little more freedom, but you can still have a great time without one, if you are willing to walk a bit and depending upon where you stay. Uber is now a very popular way to get around town. Make sure you have your Uber app loaded to your phone and you are ready to go.<\/p>\n<p>I like to recommend places I have been to and enjoyed. Be prepared for Laguna Beach to be quite busy\u00a0on a beautiful day, which is almost always!\u00a0Get started early as the crowds and traffic get worse in the late afternoon. Newport Beach and Balboa are so lovely and a must see when visiting Orange County.\u00a0\u00a0I have only offered you a little glimpse into this spectacular area where I have lived for 27 years.
